Laser welding

    Laser beam welding is a type of fusion welding. The laser uses the principle of stimulated emission of atoms to stimulate the working material to produce a beam of high monochromaticity, strong directionality and high brightness. This beam can obtain extremely high energy density (up to 1013W/cm2) after being focused. In a few thousandths of a second or less, the light energy is converted into heat energy, and its temperature can reach more than 10,000 degrees Celsius, and it is easy to melt. And gasification of various metal and non-metal materials that have a certain absorption capacity for laser. Therefore, lasers have been successfully used for welding and cutting in the industry.

    Laser beam welding is compared with other welding methods. It has the following advantages:

    (1) There is no mechanical contact between the welding device and the welded workpiece, which can avoid the deformation of the weldment and the contamination of the weld.

    (2) It can weld hard-to-access parts. The laser can be welded with the help of a deflection prism or through an optical fiber to guide it to hard-to-access parts, so it has great flexibility.

    (3) High energy density, suitable for high-speed processing. Because of its extremely small thermal deformation and heat-affected zone, it can weld precision parts and heat-sensitive materials, and has a bright future in the processing of the electronics industry and the instrument industry.

    (4) It can directly weld insulating objects.

    (5) Welding of dissimilar metals. It can weld metals with very different physical properties such as steel and aluminum, and the effect is good.

    The aspect ratio of laser welding can reach 10:1, so it can weld micro components. Compared with electron beam welding, laser welding has no vacuum system and no harm from X-ray radiation. Because of the above advantages, its application, especially in the welding of micro-parts, is increasingly widespread.
