D-SUB connector overview

    D-SUB connector, DB connector for short, is a large type of rectangular connector. It is a standard for the shape and structure of electrical connector interfaces. It was invented by ICC in 1952. Under the innovative research and development of various manufacturers at home and abroad, it has gone through several generations so far, and a variety of standard size interfaces have been diverged.

    D-SUB connectors are mainly used in telecommunications, industrial control, data transmission, aerospace, military industry and other fields. We can see it in PCBs, telecommunications equipment, industrial computers, data exchange equipment, routers, switches, servers and other equipment.

    According to the frequency range of use, D-SUB connectors can be divided into high-frequency connectors (≥3MHZ) and low-frequency connectors (less than 3MHZ); according to pin density, D-SUB connectors can be divided into two types: ordinary type and high-density type ; According to the wiring method, D-SUB connectors can be divided into welding type, crimping type and piercing type; according to the use occasion, D-SUB connectors can be divided into two types: standard type and mixed type.

    Standard D-SUB connector products, the number of pins are 9, 15, 25, 37, 50; high-density D-SUB connector products, the number of pins are 15, 26, 44, 62, 78, 104.

    At present, the most widely used D-SUB connector, its structure is mainly composed of rubber core, terminal, front iron shell, rear iron shell, and accessories.

     The rubber core material generally uses PBT+30%GF, and the colors of the rubber core are black, green, white, blue, etc.; the male terminal material is usually brass, the female terminal material is usually phosphor bronze; the front and rear iron shells are usually drawn steel Material: Screw accessories are usually made of brass or low-carbon steel. Shell accessories are available in plastic and metal. Plastic shells are usually made of ABS, PA66 and other materials. Metal shells are usually made of zinc alloy and other materials.

    There are two types of terminals: bur and punching needle. The bur has good elasticity, high strength, and strong current carrying capacity in the same body shape terminal, but the cost is high. It is often used in aerospace or military industry. Compared with the bur, the punch Elasticity, strength, current carrying capacity, etc. are all poor, but this kind of terminal has low cost and high production efficiency, and is often used in fields such as communications, electronics, and civil facilities.

    In terms of terminal plating, bur pins are generally fully gold-plated, and punching pins are divided into fully gold-plated, contacts gold-plated and pins tin-plated. The thickness of the gold-plated layer is generally 0.25~0.3μm, 0.4μm, 0.76μm, etc.

    In addition to being able to fasten the assembly, the iron shell also has a shielding effect. The front iron shell is generally nickel-plated on the copper bottom, and the rear iron shell is nickel-plated on the copper bottom, or nickel-plated on the copper bottom and then tinned. The nickel-plated layer is generally 1.27~2.54μm or higher, and the tin-plated layer is generally 3-8μm or higher.

    The main technical parameters of D-SUB connector products are:

    Rated voltage 300V;

    The rated current is 5A for ordinary type and 3A for high-density type;

    Contact resistance ≤15mΩ;

    Withstand voltage 1000V;

    Insulation resistance 5000MΩ;

    Single pin insertion force 3N;

    Use environment -55℃~125℃.

    The hybrid D-SUB connector is developed on the standard D-SUB connector. In the D-SUB interface of the same size, the signal, high current, high voltage, and coaxial contacts are integrated, so it can Achieve multiple purposes. This type of structure has a variety of terminal arrangements, which can be flexibly selected by users.

    The high-current single-pin rated current of the hybrid D-SUB connector is 10A, 20A, 30A, 40A, etc.
